Before the gates
Blair Field about an hour out. Steel, shade and a lot of empty blue seats waiting, with the Coast's own marks already up on the padding and the outfield wall.
Groundwork
The part nobody buys a ticket for. Grounds crew drag the infield, coaches walk the mound, the team lines up for the anthem. On a promo day the Coast play as the Regulators, and the whole park changes name with them.
From the mound
Three hours of afternoon baseball in flat July light. The pitching is where the frames are — front foot down, arm through, the ball already gone.
At the plate
The other half of every pitch. Bat speed reads better from the side than from behind the plate, so most of these were shot from down the line.
Ninety feet
Baserunning is the part of the game that photographs like a sport rather than a sequence of still poses. Slides, leads, and the long run into the corner.
The board
A first-year franchise puts its partners where the crowd is already looking. Bryson Financial sits above the videoboard and on the outfield wall; FTRS Training Center, TMO and the credit union run the boards between innings. Player cards go up with headshots between at-bats.
The bleachers
Small crowd, loud crowd. The mascot works the rows behind the dugout and the families down the first base line stay to the last out — which, on an afternoon like this one, is the whole point of a ballpark in the middle of a city park.
